What if slavery didn’t exist and God’s church was the reason?  On September 22, along with other Fellowship Baptist churches across Canada we will join the global Church in celebrating “Freedom Sunday”.  This is a day when the Church rallies together to work and pray for the end of slavery in our world.  Did you know that over 40 million people are held in slavery today?  Across the world, human trafficking generates about $150 billion a year, two-thirds of that is from commercial sexual exploitation.  In 2016, a child went missing in India every 12 minutes and 50% of missing children have not been found.  One of the newest and most evil forms of slavery is cybersex trafficking – the live-streamed sexual exploitation of children viewed over the internet.

On September 22 our Outreach Team leader, Michele Anderson and others from our congregation will lead us in understanding more about the issues of trafficking and lead us in prayer for God’s power to fight this devastating form of exploitation.  Providing us with resources for this day is International Justice Mission.   IJM is the largest international anti-slavery organization in the world.  Through this ministry more than 49,000 people have rescued from oppression. IJM works where justice systems are unable to protect the oppressed from violence.  Today IJM is helping local justice systems protect more than 150 million people from violence around the world where justice systems are unable to protect the oppressed from violence.
